Terms of Service

The rules of the road.

These terms govern your use of CoResearcher. They are written to be readable — no tricks, no surprising clauses buried in footnotes — but they are real terms and form a contract between you and us. If you don’t accept them, don’t use the service.

Last updated: April 16, 2026

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using CoResearcher (the website at coresearcher.ai, its demo at /research, the workspace at /projects, and the APIs they rely on — collectively the “Service”) you agree to these Terms of Service (the “Terms”) and to our Privacy Policy. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms, in which case “you” refers to both you and the organization.

2. What the Service is

CoResearcher is an AI-powered research assistant for academic users. It exposes fifteen structured research workflows (“research skills”) that you drive by filling in a focused form; the Service then calls the Anthropic Claude API with your inputs and streams the response back to your browser. For the literature-review skill, it additionally queries Semantic Scholar for candidate papers.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher) to use the Service. You must also be eligible to use Anthropic’s Claude API under Anthropic’s terms, since you supply your own API key. If you’re in a jurisdiction where use of AI services of this kind is restricted, it’s your responsibility to comply with those restrictions.

4. Accounts

Some parts of the Service (notably the workspace at /projects) require a CoResearcher account, created by clicking a magic-link we email to you. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping access to the email address tied to your account.
  • Keeping your session device reasonably secure (the magic link is single-use; the resulting session cookie authorizes future requests).
  • Signing out or revoking sessions if you suspect unauthorized access, and contacting us if you need assistance doing so.

You may close your account at any time by emailing hello@coresearcher.ai. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle deletion.

5. Your Claude API key

CoResearcher operates on a “bring-your-own-key” model. You obtain a Claude API key from Anthropic and paste it into the app. This means:

  • You are responsible for the usage and the bill. Every request you send to a research skill consumes tokens that Anthropic bills directly to your Anthropic account. CoResearcher does not bill you for model usage and is not a party to your billing relationship with Anthropic.
  • You are responsible for keeping the key secret. The key is stored in your browser’s local storage and included in each request to our server, which proxies it to Anthropic. It is not stored in our database. However, if you expose the key — by pasting it into a shared machine, sharing your browser profile, copying it into a screenshot, etc. — the exposure is yours to manage.
  • You must comply with Anthropic’s Usage Policy. Your use of the Claude API through CoResearcher is subject to Anthropic’s Acceptable Use Policy and Commercial Terms. If Anthropic suspends or terminates your API access, the Service will correspondingly stop working for you.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right (including intellectual-property, privacy, and defamation laws).
  • Generate content that is illegal, that sexually exploits minors, that incites violence, or that otherwise violates Anthropic’s Usage Policy.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, the underlying infrastructure, or other systems through the Service (including by probing for vulnerabilities without express authorization).
  • Circumvent rate limits, authentication mechanisms, or the password gate on the legacy demo route.
  • Use automated scripts to run skills at a volume inconsistent with legitimate research use, or to scrape the Service’s content, UI, or underlying prompts.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organization.
  • Submit another person’s private or sensitive data to a research skill without their consent, or submit regulated data (PHI under HIPAA, minors’ education records under FERPA, etc.) that you are not authorized to disclose.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by introducing malware or exploiting bugs instead of reporting them.
  • Resell access to the Service, package it into a paid product without our written permission, or pretend the Service is your own.

Academic integrity is your responsibility. Research skills generate analysis, citations, and prose with the help of a large language model. You must verify AI-generated citations before using them in published work, disclose AI assistance where your venue requires it, and comply with your institution’s policies.

7. Your content

You retain all rights to the text, documents, research topics, and other content you submit to or create in the Service (“Your Content”). We claim no ownership interest in Your Content.

By using the Service, you grant CoResearcher a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display Your Content solely to operate the Service for you (for example, saving your document content in our database and serving it back when you next open the project). This license ends when you delete the content or close your account, subject to reasonable processing time and legal retention requirements.

You are solely responsible for Your Content, including ensuring that you have the rights to submit it and that it does not violate anyone’s rights or these Terms.

8. Our intellectual property

The CoResearcher website, its source code (to the extent proprietary), its branding (“CoResearcher”, the logo, and associated visuals), and its UI designs are owned by CoResearcher. You are granted a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service in accordance with these Terms — nothing more.

The skill library (prompts and form definitions under src/lib/skills/) was ported from the open-source co-researcher project by @poemswe and is used under the terms of that project’s license. Attribution is preserved in the source tree and in our public documentation. No trademark, patent, or other right is implied beyond the terms of the upstream license.

9. AI-generated output disclaimers

Research skills produce output generated by a large language model. Such output can be confidently wrong, can hallucinate citations, can reflect biases present in training data, and can misinterpret your inputs. You must independently verify any factual claim, citation, or recommendation before relying on it — especially for academic, clinical, legal, or financial purposes.

CoResearcher makes no representation that AI-generated output is accurate, complete, current, non-infringing, or fit for a particular purpose. Output is a starting point for your research, not a substitute for your judgment.

10. Third-party services

The Service integrates with Anthropic (Claude API), Semantic Scholar (paper search), Resend (transactional email), and Cloudflare (hosting). Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and your use of them through CoResearcher is subject to those terms. CoResearcher is not responsible for acts or omissions of third-party services, and we are not liable for outages, data losses, or policy changes originating with them.

11. Service changes, availability, and beta features

CoResearcher is an evolving product. We may add, modify, or remove features; change UI, prompts, or skill behavior; and update these Terms. We may also label features as beta or experimental, in which case they are provided “as-is” and may change or disappear without notice.

We do not guarantee uptime, latency, or any particular level of service availability. The Service can be interrupted, degraded, or unavailable for any reason, including upstream outages at Anthropic, Cloudflare, or Semantic Scholar.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. CoResearcher specifically disclaims all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, title, accuracy, and quiet enjoyment. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, be uninterrupted, be secure, or be error-free.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will CoResearcher, its operators, contributors, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including damages for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill, or procurement of substitute services — arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid to CoResearcher in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, because CoResearcher does not charge you for model usage and does not currently charge a subscription fee, may be zero) or (b) US $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, the above limitations apply only to the extent permitted by law, and nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for gross negligence, fraud, or willful misconduct).

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless CoResearcher and its operators from any claim, liability, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) Your Content, (b) your use or misuse of the Service, (c) your violation of these Terms, (d) your violation of Anthropic’s terms or any other third-party service’s terms through the Service, or (e) your violation of any applicable law or third-party right.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time (see section 4).

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, without prior notice, if we reasonably believe you are violating these Terms, creating risk or legal exposure for us or other users, or if we are required to do so by law. Where practicable we will give you notice and a chance to cure. On termination, sections that by their nature should survive (including sections 7 (license grant to Your Content, to the extent needed to wind down), 8 (intellectual property), 12 (disclaimers), 13 (limitation of liability), 14 (indemnification), and 17 (governing law)) will survive.

16. Modifications to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we make a material change, we will update the Last updated date at the top and, for signed-in users, notify you by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of the change constitutes acceptance. If you don’t agree to a change, stop using the Service and contact us to delete your account.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the courts located in Hong Kong SAR, unless applicable mandatory consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction grants you the right to bring proceedings in another forum, in which case that right is preserved.

Before filing any formal dispute, we ask that you email hello@coresearcher.ai so we can try to resolve the issue directly. A good-faith attempt often works.

18. Miscellaneous

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and CoResearcher regarding the Service, and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject.
  • Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving intent.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, with notice to you.
  • Relationship. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, agency, franchise, or employment relationship.
  • Notices. We may send notices to the email address associated with your account. You can send notices to hello@coresearcher.ai.
